Sustainable development is not only about minimizing environmental impacts, or to meet energy crisis as such. With the current worldwide growth of city populations and the expansion of rural and coastal centres, the challenge for todays architects, urban planners, developers and government Bodies is to create communities that will provide long-term quality of life for the future generations that will make their home there.This quality of life is a clumsy formula defined by a living environment that offers affordable housing, easy access to health care, education and a myriad of other services, efficient transport and a sense of community, all within the parameters of environmentally efficient design.New building codes and government legislation have established foundational guidelines, while emerging technologies and planning philosophies will provide the building blocks of those future communities. School of Sustainable Development is the first designated planning and design institute in Bankura district in West bengal province of India to develop a new approach to architectural, planning, real estate and development education that fully integrates these variant elements.
